Sagni Majumdar has been strengthening the Research Area Robotics as Research Assistant since 01.02.2024.
She holds a Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence from Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, where she focused on human–robot interaction and emotion-aware systems. In her master’s thesis, Ms. Majumdar developed a layered ROS2-based architecture for real-time facial emotion recognition using the SHORE engine by Fraunhofer IIS. Her work emphasized interactive, multi-user support and reactive robot behavior tailored to elderly care environments.
She completed her Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, India, where she worked on impingement cooling of heated steel specimens using nanofluids as part of her undergraduate research. The findings of this work were later presented at the International Conference on Advances in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (ICAMIE – 2020) and published in the Advances in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering journal by Taylor and Francis.
Following her bachelor’s degree, she worked for three years as a Senior Engineer at TVS Motor Company in India, where she where she focused on end-of-line diagnostics, ECU flashing and testing, and the development of digital twins for automated vehicle platforms.
During her master’s studies in Germany, she worked as a working student at Siemens Healthineers, where she contributed to agile and portfolio management using Power BI and Azure.
As part of her current research at FAPS, Ms. Majumdar is working on the development of 3D high-frequency mechatronic devices and the advancement of tactile sensing in robotics through 3D-printed skin, with the long-term vision of making human-robot interaction more intuitive and socially impactful.
